What is Go?
Go is a fascinating board game that originated in China over 4,000 years ago. Today it is played by millions, including people in the US, Europe, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Korea. Go is far more popular in Asia than chess is in the west.
The basic rules of Go are easy to learn. Although the game can be complex, it doesn’t have to be. Whether you are a beginner or a grand master, you will have fun playing.
How can I learn?
We’ll make it real easy for you.
Take a tour through a set of videos that will spoon feed the basics to you the simplest way possible. These were developed for Second Life.
After you’ve seen this video, move on to part 2, part 3a, and part 3b.
An interactive website will help you review and practice what you’ve learned so far.
Now you are ready to start playing so don’t hesitate to jump in at the club or one of the online Go servers. After you’ve played a good handful of games, Tel’s Go Notes will answer some of the burning questions all new players have.
If learning Go online seems too impersonal, just attend any of our club meetings, and one of our members will be more than happy to show you the ropes.
Where can I play?
For information on local clubs in Oklahoma, check out our clubs page. For club information in the rest of the US, check out the American Go Association chapter listing.
If you’ve had no luck finding a club near you, or you would just like to play right away, then we recommend the KGS Go Server. The KGS server has chatrooms; please join ours. When connected to the server, at top of screen click on “rooms” then “room list” then “clubs”, and ours is named (you guessed it!) the Oklahoma Go Players Association. That is where we hang out online, and any one of us will be happy to help.
